Instructions
Quick instruction guide
Number of players: two to four players.
If there are more than four players, teams can be made.
Each player chooses four counters (avatars) of the same colour and places them on the first square of each level: squares 1, 50, 71 and 99.
The player who draws the lowest number starts the game.
The player who lands on the door of the final liberation (square 108) with one of his counters and meets the following conditions can escape the Matrix:
- Landing on the square with an exact number.
- Having no counters on level 4.
- Having more Dharma points than Karma points. If he does not have enough Dharma points, he must continue playing with the other counters.
- The first player to escape the Matrix by meeting all three conditions becomes the king of the Universe and before the game is over, may:
- Deal one or more of his Dharma and Karma point cards to the other players so that another player can free him or herself or, on the contrary, be trapped and unable to get out of the Matrix.
- Decide how many more moves the players have so that, with the new share out of points, they can reach square 108.
- Progress is made by rolling the dice. When it is a player’s turn, he or she chooses which level to move to:
- Level 4, squares 1 to 49. Both dice are used and their value is the sum, from 2 to 9.
- Level 3, squares 50 to 70. Only one dice is used and its value is that shown, from 1 to 6.
- Level 2, squares 71 to 98. Only one dice is used and its value is that shown, from 1 to 6.
- Level 1, squares 99 to 108. A single dice is used, the one with 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3. The maximum point value is 3.
After rolling the dice, the player chooses which counter to move, he can have more than one token on the same level.
- If a counter lands on a square occupied by another player's counter:
- Levels 3 and 4: the new counter kills the previous one, that dies and goes back to the first square of the corresponding level (level 4: square 1, level 3: square 50).
- Levels 1 and 2: counters from different players share the squares and do not die.
- SHIELD, levels 3 and 4: if a player has a SHIELD card, he/she can protect one of his/her counters for the whole game. The shield is non-transferable. If another player lands on a square occupied by a counter protected by a shield, he cannot occupy it and must move forward with another of his counters.
Types of squares
- There are neutral squares, squares with a message and trap squares:
- Neutral squares: the counter is safe, unless killed (levels 3 and 4).
- Squares with a message: the player must choose a card from the pile, read it aloud and place it on the table in full view of the other players.
- Trap squares: these make the player go forwards or backwards, and even up or down a level. On levels 3 and 4, if a counter moving backwards or forwards falls on a square occupied by another counter, it kills the other counter, even if the counter belongs to the same player. The dead counter has to start again from the first square of each level. On levels 1 and 2, the square is shared.
If you are up for a game,
a new world will reveal itself to you.
Level 4
- Square 19: move back to square 1
- Square 22: move back to square 2
- Square 25: move back to square 5
- Square 28: move back to square 9
- Square 33: move back to square 13
- Square 43: move forward to square 60
Level 3
- Square 56: move forward to square 82
- square 58: move back to square 31
- Square 60: move back to square 33 and to square 13
- Square 64: move back to square 39
- Square 65: move forward to square 71
- Square 70: move forward to square 98
Level 2
- Square 77: move back to square 33 and to square 13
- Square 98: move back to square 70
Level 1
In level 1 there are no squares to move backwards. The aim is to get to square 108 with an exact number.
What do you need to play?
MATERIALS
- To play the game Escaping the Matrix, you need:
- The book Escaping the Matrix. A Rescue Handbook by Ashurbanipal.
- The game board
- Counters or avatars: 4 counters of the same colour for each player.
- 2 dice, one six-sided dice with values 1 to 6, one six-sided dice with values 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3.
- Message cards: 22 Dharma, 22 Karma and 4 shields; 48 cards in total.
The game board and cards have been specially designed according to the cosmovision developed in the book Escaping the Matrix.
NOTE: he dice and avatars that appear in the illustration are sample models that are different from the final version.
Symbolic interpretation of the game
To understand life, there is nothing better than experiencing it. In the total absence of a cognitive pattern to help us conceptualize what the place we live in is like, I have decided to create an instructional game that will allow us to understand the cosmovision that ancestral cultures had of the Earth plane.
- The game board is divided into four levels representing four planes:
Level 1, blue, higher planetary systems, spiritual plane, consisting of 10 squares, is an ethereal plane of high consciousness located on a non-visible level.
Level 2, yellow, wandering bodies and constellations, mental plane, consisting of 28 squares, includes the planets and luminaries that imprint the magnetic information that the plane of Earth inhabitants are programmed with. On the mental plane, everything that will later materialize in the physical world on the lower levels is previously generated on the energetic level.
Level 3, green, Earth plane, emotional plane, consisting of 21 squares is divided into concentric rings and has a huge extension. In the central ring, limited by a wall of ice, are the continents and seas that we know. This is where humans, highly emotional beings, live.
Level 4, red, underworld regions, material plane, consisting of 49 squares, represents the dense world inhabited by technocrats executing great material works. Below the underworld and the seven underground levels, are the infernal regions inhabited by demons.
- Every player places a counter on each level, symbolizing that each Being has avatars on the different planes and that they all play the Matrix game at the same time.
- On levels 3 and 4 there are many trap squares; you move backwards and forwards because the counters kill one another; it is also where you can get the messages that give you Karma and Dharma points, which are essential for escaping the Matrix. What does this mean? It means that without personal work nobody can get to the door of final liberation.
- In level 2 there are fewer surprises, but the players must develop a strategy that allows them to overcome the mental plane by having enough Dharma points, for which it is sometimes necessary to return to the underworld and free the counters trapped in the material planes.
- At level 1 there are few squares. The spiritual plane is the only one that allows us to reach square 108, to get off the reincarnation wheel of Samsara.
The design of the game gives many clues about the configuration of the cosmic egg in which we are trapped, living simultaneous lives on different planes. There are dimensional portals linking the different levels that can be used to ascend and descend. Although we may not be aware of this reality, there is sufficient documentation to support the existence of beings that seek to rule the Earth plane from underworld levels that are not subject to our concept of time and matter.
As with all games, the unfolding of the game can offer us clues about our personal path of evolution: are there levels that are difficult for me? Am I not getting enough Dharma points? Do I always get the same messages? These are aspects that allow us to reflect on our way of being and of existing in the Matrix.
Keep in mind that this is a game, a metaphor of life. Playing a game is still the best and most fun way to learn.
